Purpose
This seminar is being offered to provide up-to-date information on the updates to the diabetes standards of care and recommendations for both eye and foot care in people with diabetes.
Target Audience
Certified Diabetes Outpatient Educators (CDOE), registered dietitians, registered nurses, registered pharmacists, nurse practitioners, and other allied health professionals interested in the management and research of diabetes and chronic disease.
Continuing Education Credits
This program has been submitted for 4.0 LIVE contact hours through the Northeast Multi-State Division (NE-MSD) Association. NE-MSD is an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Participants must attend the entire symposium and complete a written evaluation to be awarded continuing education credits.

The University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This is an application-based educational activity. Pharmacists will receive 4.0 LIVE contact hours (0.4 CEUs) for the educational activity. No partial credit is available.

- Identify key updates to the 2026 ADA Standards of Care for the diagnosis, classification, and prevention of diabetes mellitus
- Discuss key updates involving the screening and pharmacological management of common diabetes related complications
- Explain how the updates in the 2026 ADA Standards of Care will impact the role of CDOEs in the care, support, and management of those living with diabetes mellitus
Insights Into Diabetes -Navigating Eye Health- David Ramsey, MD, PhD, MPH
- Describe current diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening guidelines and compare major recommendations from professional organizations
- Interpret real-world evidence on DR progression and screening intervals by reviewing key findings from observational studies, registry data, and systematic reviews
- Apply evidence-based principles to determine appropriate DR screening intervals for individual patients based on clinical risk factor
- Recognize the major treatment approaches for diabetic retinopathy and the clinical situations in which treatment may be indicated
Step Ahead: Early Care for Diabetic Foot Health- Lisa Gould, MD, PhD, FACS
- Describe the burden of diabetic foot ulcers
- Describe the pathophysiology that leads to diabetic foot ulcers
- Identify patients at high risk for wounds and refer appropriately
- Discuss the elements of patient education for diabetic foot health
